Younger Looking Skin Can Be Yours: How can you keep your skin looking younger - longer?

1. Sun Protection

This is the most important thing of all. Sun protection will help to prevent the aging of your skin. The sun is largely responsible for wrinkling, blotchiness or "liver spots", broken blood vessels, dryness, and some sun related skin diseases that make the skin look older. Daily use of sunscreen products with at least an SPF of 15 along with protective clothing such as full-brimmed hats will greatly reduce the aging of the skin and the possibility of skin cancer. Sunglasses will also protect the eyelids from aging and will help reduce crow's feet by reducing the squinting, which comes from sun exposure without eye protection.

2. Avoid Smoking

Cigarette smoking robs the skin of its vitality and potential for being smooth and attractive. The skin suffers from the deteriorative effects of carbon monoxide and nicotine in the circulatory system, depriving the skin tissue of much needed oxygen and vital nutrients. People who smoke have a depleted, pallid complexion and skin that wrinkles prematurely.

3. Alcohol

Alcohol can dehydrate the skin and impede circulation, thus robbing the skin of precious moisture and vital nutrients. It can lead to broken or distended capillaries, especially over the nose and cheeks. It also depletes the body of vitamins and minerals needed for a healthy complexion. Recent studies have shown that women are more susceptible to the ill effects of alcohol than men.

4. Fitness

People who are physically fit look good and feel good. A regular exercise program will help to lengthen your life, improve your appearance, build your self-confidence, reshape your figure and delay the aging process. Exercise also benefits the skin by helping to maintain a clear circulation, calming the nerves and promoting a deeper, more revitalizing sleep.

5. Water

Water is essential for the hydration of the skin to keep it moist, soft, supple and clear. Loss of moisture from the skin is one main cause of wrinkles. The average person needs six to eight glasses of clean, pure water each day. Hot weather and exercising require an increase in the amount of water needed. (Soda, tea, coffee, juice and alcohol cannot substitute for water.) Water is a natural appetite suppressant. Water rids the body of waste materials.

6. Nutrition

Eating a varied diet rich in whole, natural foods, balanced in protein, fats and carbohydrates; and void of chemicals, is something that will allow you to realize your potential as a physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual being. Certainly the health and beauty of your skin depends on it.

7. Smile

Your face tends to conform to the position or expression that you carry most of the time. If you often frown or scowl you skin is more likely to develop lines or wrinkles between the eyes, down turning lines at the corners of the mouth. A smiling, pleasant, relaxed expression is goof for your face and will help keep you looking younger.
