Winter Skin Care

How is your skin this winter? Have you been dry and itchy? Does the skin on your hands crack from lack of moisture? This is a problem that most of us face every winter.
Did you ever notice how in the summer your skin feels so much better? Your skin feels smooth and hydrated? That's because in the summer there is more humidity in the air, and that is just what your skin needs to stay hydrated. When you heat your home in the winter it decreases the humidity indoors, and the dry, thirsty air will suck moisture from anywhere it can, including your skin. This causes it to feel tight, crack, flake, and itch like crazy.
So what can you do? Get a humidifier. Some models even let you adjust the humidity level to your comfort. Most people would find a level of 45% relative humidity ideal. As a bonus, humidifying your house may help you save on heating bills, too. Humid air feels warmer than the dry air, so if you raise the humidity, you'll feel comfortable at a lower thermostat setting. However, you can't control the humidity when you leave your house, so even if the environment in your home is perfect, you may still have problems with dry skin.

Refresh dry skin with this easy recipe!
2 TBS whole oats
2 TBS plain yogurt
Mix well until oats soften. Once mixture is creamy and well blended,
spread over face and neck (avoiding the eyes). Relax for several
minutes. Once mixture begins to dry, rinse off and pat skin dry.
Follow up with moisturizer.
